The tall buildings and elegant structures around the world mesmerize and wonderstruck everyone. The folks around the globe leave no stone unturned as they praise these marvelous creations. However, a majority of the population forget to applaud for one of the major entities behind these structures – The Architects. An architect is the one who visualizes the shape and structure of a building, ponder over the practicality of the same and involve in the designing of its blueprint so that his imagination could be turned into a flawless creation.

Right from some of the historical architectures that boast of classical era and lifestyle to modern architectures that epitomize technology, a lot has changed. In fact, with the invention of new technology and new ideas, the architecture is revolutionizing with every passing year.
Apart from technology and creative thoughts that go into the making of a marvelous structure, the perception of the architect holds a paramount importance in deciding the shape and form of the building that is under construction. All the factors lead to new architectural trends coming into existence every year and the year 2017 is no exception. One is sure to witness a plenty of new trends in the world of architecture this year. In fact, if one look carefully, he will find that many of the trends have already rolled out.
Below, we have picked top 8 architectural trends which we believe will dominate the real estate and construction industry of the whole world. Let’s find out what they are!
The Foray of Building Information Modelling
What was once designed on a large sheet of paper went on to be called as AutoCad. All thanks to the computers and technology that an architect and/or homeowner could see and share their visualization in 3D space. As technology evolves literally everyday, the advanced version of the same process came into existence. Building Information Modelling or BIM is a process wherein its operator generates a digital representation of physical as well as functional characteristics of places.
The BIM software has gained momentum, and itis used by individuals, businesses, and government who plan to design and executethe construction of large infrastructures such as
- Power Grids

Though its current use is limited to making big projects, the New Year will witness the use of BIM in the making of residential and commercial projects as well. When the adoption rate of this technology increases, more tools and features will be added to make it better and more efficient.
When elements such as Big Data, Virtual Reality, Generative Design, Internet of Things (IoT), etc. will be incorporate din the BIM, it will lead to more intelligent designs, increased functionality, efficiency of the building, better safety measures, etc.
A Subtle Approach Towards Interior Designing
Gone are the days when an emphasis was laid on bold and bright interiors. Be it commercial complexes or residential apartments, these days, people have started refraining from incorporating highlighters, sparkling textures, ravishing lightings, shimmering décor items and all those interior designing elements that could degrade the elegance of their place.

People are opting for more subtle design and elements for their interior. Though everyone is accustomed to a high-end technology-driven lifestyle, a U-turn can be observed in the architectural industry.
Now, a sense of comfort, as well as simplicity is what people prefer for their:
- Hotels & Restaurants
Not only the owners of these places, but a majority of designers around the world are suggesting and recommending to return to the original sensibilities. This is done to bestow the space with a genuine and true identity along with an authentic sense of ‘place’. Above everything else, beauty lies in the simplicity. Hence, keeping the design simple is already making rounds and will surely be one of the dominating trends of the industry in the new year.
Infrastructure and Masterplan – Bringing them in the Limelight

While many developers and construction companies ensure that they build great commercial properties and residential apartments for their clientele, the government of the countries is involved in building social infrastructures and amenities for the benefit of not just the residents of a particular locality but for the city as a whole.
The architects around the globe are going through a major paradigm shift due to the various initiatives of the governments in regards to countries’ infrastructure. The architects are now leaving their comfort zones of residential and commercial properties and foraying into the development of government projects.
Due to the global sustainability ranking becoming a niche of huge significance for governments, they are investing more in the modern infrastructure of their countries. Thus, for many countries, the master planning includes the development of
All the initiatives of the governments towards building a better infrastructure have gained a momentum recently. Easing the congestion and minimizing the disruption in the major cities of the world are the apex priorities of the governments. The same can be achieved when the brilliant minds in the niche of architecture design and execute social infrastructures that are not merely an emblem of great pride for the nation but their functionality can lead to the eradication of existing challenges of the country.
The trend of focusing more on the social infrastructure and developing master plans that include the betterment of the city, state or country will surely be seen in the coming months of the year.
A Boost in the Investment of Recruitment and Training
Keeping up with constantly evolving architectural landscape in terms of technology and innovation is no less than a challenge for every architectural firm and player. Perhaps some existing architects are not that much tech savvy as compared to the buddingarchitects. For this cluster of architects, the architectural firms will be investing a large chunk of their financial resources to train and keep them up-to-date with the latest happenings of the industry.

Be it the architectural industry, FMCG industry or any other industry of the world, preference is always given to a fresh mind. Thus, a significant portion of financial resources of architectural firms will be invested in the recruitment of new talents. Some of the ways through which the new architects will be hired are:
- Campus Hiring
- Existing Employees Referrals
- Luring the Experienced and Brilliant Architects of the Competitors
- Advertising for the Vacant Posts
Even when the demand for the new talent is at a peak, it will be ensured that the quality doesn’t degrade. Only those who match the values of the firm and are ambitious will be hired. Many qualified architects are looking for job opportunities where they can exhibit their skills. The increase in the candidates means the firms will now have to increase their resources to find them, recruit and train them.
A Green Approach
Sustainability, green buildings, energy efficient buildings, etc. are some of the terms that are not new to the resident of a city. However, the intensity and execution of these sustainable concepts will be at an all-time high in the year 2017.
Developers, realestate contractors, construction companies and most importantly, the architects will be laying emphasis on the design and execution of the sustainable concepts. Be it the construction of the building or features of the design, everything will be in the direction of a sustainable environment.

Interestingly, the industry experts are also expecting the 3D printing to mark its presence in the real-estate industry. Though the prototype of 3D printing is already there in the form of a small office in Dubai, the full-fledged yet fool proof utilization of the technology in the construction is sure to awestruck the spectators. The 3D printing is clean, and when its proper utilization will be done, it will lead to:
- Less cost
- Lowest impact on the environment
- Quicker results as compared to traditional methods of undertaking the construction
All in all, the green approach towards the architecture and construction will make a comeback this year with oodles of new twists and solutions. Whether or not its potential towards a sustainable environment will be leveraged- only the time will tell.
Invisible Structures and Skyscrapers
Currently, the architects around the world are striving to blend their structures with the surrounding with the help of green concepts. However, they will soon be focusing on how to make their design and buildings invisible.

Today, many architects are using minimalist mirror-like facade materials to transform their structures invisible. The Avenue Leclerc Office Building which is designed by AZC is an excellent example of the invisible structure. The façade of the entire building was wiped entirely clean of all the extra elements. The whole structure was then combined with 65% of glass to obtain that invisible look.
Apart from using glasses to obtain the desired invisible look, LED lights, cameras, and computer systems will be utilized to make the buildings invisible. Tower Infinity of South Korea, which is still under construction, is a perfect instance of the same. The 450-metere tall skyscraper will feature all the three components, i.e. computers, LED and cameras, that will create a reflective cover on the outside of the building. This covering will be transparent by day and bright in the night, thus, maintaining the invisible look throughout.
2017 is sure to witness a full-fledged execution of the same technique for a plenty of structures and buildings located in various parts of the globe.
Giant Coverings for the Structures
If the mirrors, computers, cameras and LEDs are making a structure invisible, then the giant coverings around the buildings will be protecting them from dust, heat, water and other uncontrollable forces. The covering will be:
- Super Light in Weight
EXO-BURJ was a project proposed in the year 2014 wherein it was decided to cover Burj Khalifa – the tallest skyscraper in the world – with a large fabric. Though it is still on the paper, inspired by the proposal, there are many architects and engineers who have started working on the same concept for their projects.

Although the innovative idea is still in the infant stage, it will soon and surely be one of the architectural trends of the coming months.
Floating Swimming Pools
The idea of a floating swimming pool is mind boggling. A water body floating on another water body is quite hard to imagine let alone bringing the same into a reality. However, a New York design project from Family and PlayLab plans to bring a large filtration system between Manhattan and Brooklyn. It is a 164-foot long floating pool that is all set to take shape soon.
